Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

ICSI is a technique which injects a single human sperm cell through the zona and right into the cytoplasm of the egg. This technique has now been applied to treat the infertility of men who not only produce poor quality sperm, but those too who produce no sperm at all because of blockage or other testicular disorder (or vasectomy).

Techniques like: testicular sperm aspiration (TESA) and testicular sperm extraction (TESE) are now available to retrieve sperm cells from the testis or a biopsy of testicular tissue of the male partner.

The individual sperms retrieved are then used to fertilize eggs by ICSI procedure to achieve a better fertilization rate in the IVF programe.
